In Vedic astrology one cannot make any meaningful prognostic without the use of divisional charts. The above table gives the relative weightage for each group of divisionals. The selection of the appropriate group is essenstial. In the words of Pt. Sanjay Rath,

"D1, D2, D3, D9, D12, D30 Shadvarga for Prasna;
Add D-7 - Saptavarga for Mundane,
Add D-10, D-16 & D-60 - Dasvarga for Jataka
Add the last six and get Shodasvarga for Raj-jataka or Manushya Jataka"

For Muhurtha Saptvarga (Group of 7: Septet) can be used.

As explained by, Pt. Sanjay Rath Shadvarga (sextet) and Saptavarga(Septet) should not be used in natal horoscopy, Use dasavarga and shadvarga for natal horoscopy.

Bhaava/Rashi Kaaraka

|| Om Gurave Namah ||

Dear Friends,
Just as small refresher on Kaarakas, If you read Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, The Kaaraka (Doers) are defined in first few chapters until the last shloka in Divisional Considerations chapter. Further after on Karakatwa chapter more elaboration is done on tasks done by each graha in nature and in each bhaavas.

The first few chapter define the natural significance of each graha, Later in kaarakatwa chapter Maharishi Parashara defines Atmakaaraka etc(Charakaaraka) and Sthira kaaraka. Thus every graha creates, sustaines and destroys due to they being controlled by Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara.

The individuals/people are controlled by Grahas,
The activities are controlled by Bhaava(emotion/nature) and
The Rashi/Signs gives the the opportunity and results.

Mahararishi Parashara also explains which Grahas perform the tasks for each Bhaava and rashi in our horoscopes.

Let me summarize them in the below table.

Here is a breif explanation of each,

1) Kaala Purusha is time incarnate, He gives the results of Karma. For example, All activities done to Lagna it's fruit is given by Mars. Hence makes you strong. Another example is all activities done to 2nd house gives you results thru Venus, Hence gives you good spouce and conforts. The activities done to maitain a good family is reaped thru Kala Purusha 2nd Lord. Like all karma 10th house work, All hard work done gives the fruit thru a benficial saturn, similarly everything we take (11th) from others the fruit is given thru Saturn or Rahu(natural 11th lord).

2) Bhaava's from Kaaraka:Every kaarka blesses us with something, the houses counted from Kaaraka (doer) shows what blessings we get from each kaaraka, Like 4th from moon gets us the mother, Lagna/self/1st house is gift of mother, hence 1st from moon is what we get from mother, The 6th from mercury gives us good relatives and thus reduces enmity, the 6th from mercury is gives us strength.

3) Bhaava's kaaraka: Counted from lagna, Each house upliftment is taken care by a graha, For example, The body is made for the soul (Sun), Hence Sun takes care of upliftment of the soul, 2nd from Lagna is controlled by Jupiter, It controls the qualtity we eat and benevolent nature towards the family, etc

Now, The lords from lagna will indicate how the individual is varying from the above precepts. declare good or bad knowing the above precepts.

Sarvotabhadra Chakra

|| Om Gurave Namah ||

Dear Friends,

The Nakshatra's represent the power of Shakti. Thru Shakti's power everything gets created. Even The Signs in Zodiac are created thru Nakshatras. Many stars in the sky can be formed into pictures. Like Scorpion type of formation is formed connecting stars in Scorpio etc. This can be quite prominently seen on the sky. But the quesion is why only can you form only Scorpio, Leo, etc out of those stars?. Can you group the stars in other ways?.

Yes, There is also subtler forms created by these nakshatras (group of stars), Which is not directly visible on the sky by connecting the dots(stars). Like you can arrange a group of Nakshtra's to form a Tortoise and it's called Kurma (Turtle) Chakra. When you form a 8 spokes out of the nakshtras;s It's called Kaala Chakra. Potentially there can be infinite number of such chakra you can draw. Most important ones are divined by the Rishi's for our usage.

One such arrangement called Sarvotobhadra Chakra. Where 28 Nakshatras are grouped in a 8x8 square with 7 nakshtras in each side. Click on the below image for a bigger picture.

This is a very important form of Chakra which includes all the Five Elements of Time, Called Panchanga. The five elements are listed as below,
  1. Nakshatra: Airy/Vaayu Element, The 28 nakshatras are placed from Krittika onwards in groups of 7.

  2. Yoga: Ether/Akaash Element, The Yoga is defined as Sun+Moon+Pushy Degree. Pushya is ruled by Brihaspati, The Guru of Devas. He represents the mantras and sound elements. Each Nakshatra is given a sound element. The "ha" sound goes to Pushya and "da" sound goes to Ashlesha, Hence The sound chakra is called Hodaa Chakra and to represent ether element these sounds are placed adjacent to each nakshtra. The vowels are placed in diagonals. The Center is full of Ether and one can imagine "OM" in the center, which radiates to become all sounds.

  3. Vaara: Fire Element, Represented by the Weekdays are also place around the center. The weekdays are again grouped into five elements, Sun and Mars is taken as fire element, Moon and Venus is taken as Water (Jala) element.

  4. Tithi: Water element of Panchanga, The Tithi is grouped in Five, and kept besides the Vaara (Weekday). They form Amrita Yoga (The specific combination of Weekday element + Tithi Element). Nanda tithi on Sunday/Tuesday etc is called Amrita yoga or Eternal. Thus signify auspicious nature in Sarvatobhadra center.

  5. Karana: Karana is the Earth(Pritvi) element in Panchanga. It signifies actions. It's actually half of Tithi to signify actions coming from Desire (Tithi/Water), But in horoscopes actions are performed on Signs and Houses. Hence the 12th houses are placed around the Center.
Now, The transits or Natal position of Grahas is placed on Nakshtras. Horizontal and diagonal lines are drawn to note the effects. These lines are called Vedhas.

Since this Sarvatobhadra is Lunar tool, The grahas are divided in Saumya/Soft (Moon,Jupiter, Venus, Mercury) and Kroora/Crude/Cruel (Sun, Mars, Saturn and nodes). The moons gets troubled by Cruel grahas and feels soft from soft grahas.

The Vedha by Cruel Graha gives mental turmoil and by soft graha gives mental pleasures. Note Special Nakshatras like Janma (1st from moon), Karma (10th from Moon) etc to note effects on mind , profession etc. Note vedha on akshara(phonemes) to see what mantra is getting influenced in mind Or your first phoneme of name. Note vedha on say 9th sign from you Lagna to note how the society(Moon) is influencing you actions in dharma etc.

This being just an introduction, Further readings can be done from Phaladeepika, Jataka Paarijaata and such classics.

Warm Regards
Sanjay P

Nadiamsa and Shodasha Varga

|| Om Gurave Namah ||
Dear Readers,

In further thoughts to a previous article from this blog at,

http://sanjayprabhakaran.blogspot.com/2005/03/nadyamsa-from-parasaras-shodasa-vargas.html

As can be be seen from the above list not all divisional charts are needed to make the Nadiamsha (150) division of the zodiac.

The Mininum Parasari Divisions needed to make 150 inequal division of the zodiac are as listed below in the table.

Amsha
D7 0.00 4.29 8.57 12.86 17.14 21.43 25.71 30.00

D16 0.00 1.88 3.75 5.63 7.50 9.38 11.25 13.13 15.00 16.88 18.75 20.63 22.50 24.38 26.25 28.13 30.00

D27 0.00 1.11 2.22 3.33 4.44 5.56 6.67 7.78 8.89 10.00 11.11 12.22 13.33 14.44 15.56 16.67 17.78 18.89 20.00 21.11 22.22 23.33 24.44 25.56 26.67 27.78 28.89 30.00

D40 0.00 0.75 1.50 2.25 3.00 3.75 4.50 5.25 6.00 6.75 7.50 8.25 9.00 9.75 10.50 11.25 12.00 12.75 13.50 14.25 15.00 15.75 16.50 17.25 18.00 18.75 19.50 20.25 21.00 21.75 22.50 23.25 24.00 24.75 25.50 26.25 27.00 27.75 28.50 29.25 30.00

D60 0.00 0.50 1.00 1.50 2.00 2.50 3.00 3.50 4.00 4.50 5.00 5.50 6.00 6.50 7.00 7.50 8.00 8.50 9.00 9.50 10.00 10.50 11.00 11.50 12.00 12.50 13.00 13.50 14.00 14.50 15.00 15.50 16.00 16.50 17.00 17.50 18.00 18.50 19.00 19.50 20.00 20.50 21.00 21.50 22.00 22.50 23.00 23.50 24.00 24.50 25.00 25.50 26.00 26.50 27.00 27.50 28.00 28.50 29.00 29.50 30.00

Thus D7, D16, D24, D27, D40, D45 and D60 seems to be minimum parasari divisions needed to divide sign by 150.

The Nadiamsha is also referred as naadiamsa, naadi amsa, Naadi Jyotish, Nadi readings etc.
This shows that Parasari sixteen divisions and Nadi Jyotish are related. Each individual construction of divisional charts like D3 (cyclic, parasari etc) can vary but the degree boundaries would remain same. So Parashara's basic sixteen divisional charts lead to 150 division of each sign or 150x12=1800 divisions of whole zodiac.

GSLV-F02 carrying INSAT-4C failed

|| Om Gurave Namah ||
Dear Friends,
The Indian sattelite launch of Insat-4C launch time is given below, The heavily afflicted 8th house. Indicates many doshas troubling the launch. Mercury, Indicate Miscommunication, Saturn: Sloppy execution or timing related issues. Mars in 8th also indicates some dosha in Fire related elements. So Feul system could have been a failure. Mars in an engineering effort should never be in 8th since the kaarka for Engineering in 8th having a fault.
Even A strong Full moon in Lagna fails to protect. In front of so many doshas.
The original proposed time had Scorpio lagna, with Sun in 8th, would have been preferably better (Still should be avoided), Sun in 8th would have given leader ship crisis or again energy related issues.
Warm Regards
Sanjay P

Dear Sanjay P

Why You Did not Predict it earlier then? Why are you selectively
analyzing after it Happened?

anand

Dear Anand,
Muhurtha is different from Janma Jataka. Janma Jataka indicates the karma done at past and hence you can say when it will fructify (predict).
Whereas in Muhurtha its for fresh karma, so selection of muhurtha is important. Most people plan to do it a certain time but the actual start muhurtha changes to something else. So we cannot predict using muhurtha chart beforehand. Muhurtha is taking the blessings of the graha's so that our future karma is benefits to self and the world in general. Depending on your actual karma you may/maynot be able to start a task in a planned time. With this you can deduc many things.
Warm Regards
Sanjay P

Dear Mr. Sanjay,

I have the following to say.
There is chara karaka replacement during the launch of the space shuttle.
Moon and Jupiter are in the same degree.
Jupiter the Gnati karaka takes over from Moon the Putra karaka.
Since the space shuttle comes under the Stira karaka scheme, Rahu takes
over.Rahu should have connection with Sun or AK.
Rahu aspects Mars-AK.Rahu has rasi drishti with Sun also.
Venus the karaka for long travel should have connection with Rahu.
In this case there is no connection, but Venus is in Marana Karaka sthana.
The AL is in simha and the 3rd. from AL, Jupiter is placed which is marana
karaka stana from AL.Ketu is in the 2nd. house from AL.

Rahu has rasi drishti with Moon and hence recovery is not possible. Rahu aspects Scorpio, Virgo, cancer and aries. These are vulnerable times. The Mrityu-pada-A8 is with Venus.Take the 7th. from A8, whichever is stronger.A8 is stronger. The trines from A8 are virgo and capricorn. These are also vulnerable periods. But the shuttle failed during the first few minutes.

M.R.Murali

Yes, What you say is an excellent point. Let me Add, The defect in chara kaaraka indicates that there is problem in sustenance related issue in the chart. When the sustenance fails the destruction comes in, Hence the Chara kaaraka which replaces for example GK , Here is takes the role of death hence Sthira kaaraka for the significator for Gnaati takes over, The Gnaati is indicated by Mercury Natural Kaaraka and I think Mars will the Sthira Kaaraka for Gnaati. Sthira kaaraka's role for Gnaathi is to keep in control the Naisargika Kaarak or to make sure Creation is of good quality. A thing gets destroyed by Rudra (Sthira Kaaraka) because of it's defects.

Hence Mars takes Rudra form for Gnaati. This indicates that "Gnaati" or relatives in chart were not doing the functions right. I would think that Relatives indicates co-workers or supporting organization for this Mundane chart.

Also note that Mars is nearly in deep debility point, So the Uccha bala for Mars is nearly Nil.

But to verify this conclusively, One has to _time_ the above yogas. So the Purna Ayush of the space craft should be known. Else we cannot verify with dasa and show clearly the failure in dasa/periods/maturity of the related grahas. What would you think is the purna ayush of the chart?.

Understanding Antardasa

|| Om Gurave Namah ||

Dear Jyotishas,

Zodiac with all the divisional analysis indicates all the karma the native has accumulated so far. The Dasa systems indicates the karma which is currently fructifying.

It's preferred to be aware of all past samskaara and do proactive remedies. But not all of us may have the chance to do it. Hence, Analysis of the dasa and remedies based on the current dasa is another solution. Here in this writeup I will try to explain my understanding of Antardasa. The student can learn and apply the same for suitable remedies.

The Mahadasa indicates what the person learns in soul level. It indicates the nature of the self for a longer durations of time. Time span as seen from mana on atma is very slow or, in other words, Atma level learnings are very slow to sink in.

The Antardasa indicates the Mana(Mind) level influence from the environment. The influences on mind changes faster. Enjoyer of Antardasa is Mind Or Moon. Antardasa is also called Bhukti. Bhukti means enjoyment, like pleasures of senses, eating etc,. The word Bhukti hence gives good description of Antardasa results.

Understanding that Antardasa gives mana (Mind) level influence we can do the following to understand it for a given chart,
  1. Moon: Consider Antardasa from Moon lagna (Seat of Mind).
    • Consider moon lagna in various divisional charts to understand the influence from each environments
    • Primarily consider Moon dispositor and 4,2 and 11th from Moon.

  2. Arudha: Consider Arudha's controlled by the Antardasa.
    • Arudha's are influences on mind and hence give enjoyments.

  3. Bhoga: Compute Bhoga. Bhoga means enjoyment is synonym to Bhukti. And see the place from where Antardasa gives the enjoyment.
    • Calculate the distance of Antardasa lord from Dasa Lord, Count as many signs from Antardasa lord to get the sign from where enjoyments are coming.

  4. Argala Given by Antardasa lord: The Antardasa lord tries to influence the moon(mind). Hence consider 10, 12 and 3rd from Antardasa lord.
The above clues can be intelligently applied by students of Jyotish to unravel the results of antardasa. Interested Readers may post one examples of the above usages in their respective chart for any given event.

Warm Regards
