Gowri Panchangam table is given in many tamil calendars to select suitable time period of 1.5 Hours. Here I will try to show how this table is derived.
The gowri panchangam table is derived using two chakras
Below is shown the Rahu kaala chakra, the cycle begins with Sun and ends with Rahu.
Rules: A day or night is divided in 8 parts. Each part is assigned a ruler. Day time rulers are assigned in from the weekday lordwards in clockwise, and nightwise rulers are assigned from the opposite side of the weekday and goes in clockwise.
Example: For sunday, the eight rulers are Su, Ma, Ju,Me,Ve, Sa, Mo and Ra. So rahu kaala is from 8th part of the day. for night time on sunday, take the graha opposite sun, which is Venus, so the eight rules in night time are, Ve, Sa, Mo, Ra, Su, Ma, Ju, Me.
Below is Vaara Chakra. There is another way to find the quality of time for the eight parts of the day. The 7 weekday lords are arranged in a circle, As shown below. The time ruled by each part is described below. Just like in Rahu kaala assignment , each part is assigned during day time from the weekday onwards, But if the part gets rulership of Rahu from above chakra. That part is assigned to Rahu and called Visha.
Sun part is called Udveg (उद्वेग/உத்தி/Anger) , Means anger or something done in fear of authority.
Moons part is called Amrit (अमृत/அமிர்த/Elixir), Means undying or elixir, Or that which prevents disease and gives longevity.
Mars part is called Roga(रोग/ரோகம்/disease), Means sickness.
Mercury's part is called labha(लाभ/லாபம்/Profit), Mean business success also means getting something.
Jupiter's part is called Dhana(धन/தனம்/Prosperity), Means growth, savings and prosperity.
Venus part is called Sukha (सुख/சுகம்/enjoyment). Means you will have all the luxury and enjoy.
Saturn's part is called Chora ( चोर/சோரம்/theft), which mean something will be lost.
Rahu's part is called Visha (विषम/விஷம்/Poison), this can mean break, difficult,destruction, sorrow etc. There is a chance that any new activity done during this time could lead to some problem.
In short parts ruled by sun, mars, sat, rahu are not good for auspicious tasks. Use this table below to find an auspicious time within a given day. This can be used for small tasks for important tasks like marriage etc you have to use the horoscope and all the muhurtha principles.

Only for Sunday, the derivation seems to hold up. For the rest of the days, the gowri panchanga table does not match to the vaara chakra or raahu chakra order.
Any ideas?
