Essense of bhāva

|| Om Gurave Namah ||

Understanding Bhāvas(Houses)

bhā means to Shine; the zodiac is called bhāchakra (shining circle) and is created by bhāskara (Sun; the light creator). bhāva means a house in zodiac; bhāva means an expression. All human expressions are therefore various shades of light. The word  '(to) Be' could also derived from bhā.

Understanding of houses(bhāva) involves understanding our creation. Vedic-Philosophy teaches that everything is created Supreme Mahavishnu, who has thousands of names. The higher levels of derivation can contemplated upon from Various purānas and bṛhatparāśarahorāśāstra, The material aspects of this universe is best understood by the Shiva and Shakti concept. Sun and Moon in another lower lowel derivation are representatives of Shiva and Shakti. For easier understanding one should first understand the nature of Grahas and then understand the nature of Bhāvas. The 12 unions of Sun and moon in a year causes the 12 Bhāvas. These 12 Bhāvas are grouped in various ways.

The grahas are understood begining with Sun and Moon. The same way Bhāvas can be understood from Mother and Father houses; The Creators. The Sun is the kaaraka of the 9th house (also Lagna) and Moon is the Kaaraka of the 4th house. Trines are created by Sun and Hence he is also called as Konaarka(Kona[Trine]+Arka[Sun]). Moon creates the tides and hence the 4 quadrants. These four multiply with three and we get twelve.

Sun and Moon are the prime light givers, Shiva and Shakti are the prime knowledge givers. Dharma is from 9th house and Moksha and happiness comes from 4th house. All higher education comes from 9th and all basic education pertinent to making a living comes from 4th. This is indicated by the fact that in D24(caturviṁśaṁśa)the chart for education, the planets are placed from Leo and Cancer.

Parthiva Varsha Phala

|| Om Gurave Namah ||

Pārthiva   sāvatsara   phala

Annual Predictions for Parthiva-Chaitra New Moon New Year.

By Sanjay Prabhakaran For Jyotish Digest(c)

Yugaadi is a new year celebrated in certain parts of India. It occurs when the first phase of moon commences in Pisces. Yugaadi (pronounced by some as Ugadi) is formed from words Yug(era) + aadi(starting). Every year has an appropriate name, diety etc. From which, one can decipher the good and bad of the year. This year is called as parthiva(पार्थिव pārthiva)

In Jupiters cycle of Sixty years, pārthiva is the 19th year. Parthiva means Earth born or related to earth or rulers of earth( vriddhi form of word पृथ्वी pṛthvī). So this years portents indicated will be more relavant to the kings ruling the earth and all matters related to earth.

The above chart is the position of planets at the Sun and Moon were exactly conjoined. The lagna(also Gulika, Mandi, HL, etc)  indicated in the chart is  the lagna rising at the Washington, DC.  For each nations portents the lagna should be calculated for the their respective capitals.

General World Readings

Some general readings to whole world can be made using the Sun-Moon as Lagna,  The specifics will change for each nation.

This years ruler is Jupiter. Jupiter is in parivartana with debilitated Mercury. Jupiter indicates Law officials, Religious people etc and Mercury indicates that students, traders, business people. These matters will be in focus, The seeming fallen Mercury is exalted in Navamsa shows gain from fall in mercury tatva. In Pisces and Virgo axis we find that there is a eclipse in this chart due to conjunction with Sun and Moon with Rahu and Ketu. Pisces indicates oceans and Virgo is pritvi tatva, tectonic  plates are indicated by the Mercury and Virgo. There could be some surge in earthquake related activities (Mercury dasa). There soon going to be Lunar eclipse followed. When such a Lunar eclipse follows a solar eclipse good can be expected in the world. The debilitated mercury is exalted in Navamsa hence the communications, education and such activities will take beating and then have a rise. The rise can be expected in Mercury dasa( Please note dates as pasted above in Dasa). Jupiter is conjoined Saturn and Mars in Navamsa indicating the past karma related to violence will be major focus by Jupiter. Venus is exalted and vargottama in Pisces, Venus is kaaraka for fire fighter, so venus conjunction with eclipse indicates that this year fire efforts (making peace) could be in focus. In dasa of venus as indicated above peace initiatives will be in focus, more so as Venus is atmakāraka in the chart. Mars is exalted in Rashi so excess violence should be expected in above indicated mars dasa.

Readings for USA

Leo rising with Lagna lord in 8th indicates USA focus in 8th house matters related to war, loan, transformation etc. More so since Jupiter is the Abda(Year) lord. The Hora lord is Moon indicating that activities related to 12th house will be high and it’s in 8th house of Marana kaaraka sthaana forming Vipareeta Raja yoga. In other words, gains after fall of some secret enemies. Interestingly Jupiter is with Nirriti (demons) in Kaalachakra indicating some kind of curses from divine. But Moon the Hora lord is with Indra indicating acquisition of some power (Indra) after some curses from divine. These indications will be seen in Moon and Jupiter dasa as given above.

Papal Changes and Pisces Eclipse

Papal Changes , Eclipses and Nodes on the Pisces Axis
By Shree Narasimha PVR Rao

Namaste friends,

I join our catholic friends in mourning the death of Pope John Paul II. As President Bush described, he was a "humble, wise and fearless priest". I will try to write a detailed analysis of his life and life events one of these days.

* * *

BTW, you may be interested in knowing that five Popes passed away in the last 90 years near successive eclipses caused by nodes on the Pisces-Virgo axis!!

Pope John Paul II passed away today. There is a solar eclipse caused by Rahu in Pisces next week and a lunar eclipse caused by Ketu in Virgo after 3 weeks.

Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul I passed away in Aug and Sept 1978. There was a lunar eclipse caused by Ketu in Pisces on Sept 16 and a solar eclipse caused by Rahu in Virgo on Oct 2.

Pope John XXIII passed away in June 1963. There was a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse in July, but they were caused by nodes in Ge-Sg axis.

Pope Pius XII passed away in October 1958. There was a solar eclipse caused by Rahu in Virgo on Oct 12 and a lunar eclipse caused by Ketu in Pisces in Oct 27.

Pope Beneditct XV passed away a few weeks before successive lunar and solar eclipses cased by Rahu in Virgo and Ketu in Pisces.

There is something about nodes in dual signs, especially Pisces and Virgo, and the Papal tradition. Eclipses caused by those nodes seem to bring changes in Papacy.

May Jupiter's light shine on us,
Narasimha

---------------------------------------------------------

Dear Narasimha,
Namaste,

Very interesting and useful observation. However, 90 years are only 4.49% of 2005 years, and 5 popes out of 132 are only 3.8% ...
In my opinion a too small base for drawing 'final' conclusions but a very good start...

As a 'lover' of statistics I would have investigated the time of death of ALL the popes in relation to eclipses since the known first one, Viktor the II. who died 1057, and worked on an "academic report".
Unfortunately I don't have the time for it at this moment but enclose a list of all popes in case anyone like to delve into this adventure, (finding the date of death, nearest eclipse date and do the statistics). Otherwise I'll do it as time allows in the near future.

The 132 popes list from 1055 to 2005:

Dear Jay,

Given that the combination is not something that happens everyday, even happening in 5 cases is statistically very significant. Let me do some probability analysis to drive my point home.

If you randomly take a date, what is the probability that there are two successive eclipses caused by nodes in Pisces/Virgo within a month from that date? Nodes are in Pisces/Virgo during 3 years out of every 18 years. Out of these 3 years, there are at most 5 occasions of two successive eclipses. So the dates that fall within a month from such occurrence are 5x45=225 days.

So the approximate probability that any date selected at random falls within a month from an occurrence of two successive eclipses caused by nodes on the Pisces axis is

225/(18x365) = 0.03.

So there is just a 3% chance that a randomly selected date satisfies this combination. This is a very low probability event.

If we randomly select 7 dates, the probability that any 5 out of 7 dates satisfy this combination is less than 0.000001. That means one-in-million! If you randomly select 7 dates and check if 5 of those satisfy this combination, you will have success once in a million attempts on average!!

So this is statistically very significant.

* * *

I just wanted to share the interesting observation and intentionally did not give any logic to support this.

I am not sure if what I have observed with papal transitions in the last century is due to a static feature in the chart of the papal institution or that of Jesus Christ or due to a static symbolism/karakatwa (e.g. read the nice replies to my post by Brendan Feeley and Pt Sanjay Rath on varahamihira yahoogroup) or due to some dasas/progressions.

So I have no expectation of what will happen if we try this on Popes from previous centuries.

If somebody has the data of papal death dates and papal ascension dates from previous centuries, it will be interesting to analyze them.

May Jupiter's light shine on us,
Narasimha

Namaste friends,

I do not have the time to do a full analysis of Pope John Paul II's chart, but let me list some salient features of the chart for the benefit of others who may want to study his chart.

Birthdata:

18th May 1920
5:30 pm (TZ: 2:00 east of GMT)
19e30, 49n53
Asc: 4Li31, Moon: 9Ta56

I will list some salient features of the chart.

(1) In rasi chart, lagna lord Venus and 9th lord Mercury have a close conjunction, giving a nice raja yoga relating to dharma and righteousness.

(2) Venus and Ketu are very closely conjoined within 11 arc-min and Saturn is in a trine from them. This results in Tapaswi yoga and makes him an austere, disciplined and selfless pursuer of some goal.

(3) Rasi chart has Saraswati yoga among other yogas and shows a scholar.

(4) Arudha lagna (AL) contains exalted Jupiter and shows the image of a wise and learned religious man. Mars in the 3rd from AL shows the image of a fearless person.

(5) In navamsa chart, Jupiter and Ketu have a kartari on lagna. Jupiter is the planet of dharma and religion. Ketu is the planet of parampara (lineage). Yoga of Jupiter and Ketu on navamsa lagna shows that the native upholds and spreads a religious lineage.

(6) In dasamsa chart, 7th lord Venus and lagna lord Ketu occupy lagna. Both are in a dasamsa controlled by Isaana!! You find planets in dasamsas controlled by
Isaana influencing lagna in the charts of priests and religious people. (You can find the controlling deities of various dasamsas and other amsas under "Amsa rulers" sub-tab in "Basics" tab in JHora 7.02.)

(7) Other lagna lord Mars is in a dasamsa controlled by Indra and has a raja yoga with 10th lord Sun and occupies AL. Planets in Indra's dasamsa show power and authority, especially when they are associated with lagna, AL and ghati lagna (which is the case here with Mars).

Factors (6) and (7) show a powerful and influential priest. Interestingly, it was in the Dwisaptati sama dasa of Mars that he became Pope. As lagna lord is in 7th in rasi chart, Dwisaptati sama dasa is the right nakshatra dasa for him.

(8) The vimsamsa chart has Dharma-Karmadhipati yoga. The 9th lord Jupiter is in 10th and 10th lord Mars is in 9th. This shows a lot of dharmik karma relating to spirituality.

(9) Lagna lord Moon is in 12th in vimsamsa with Venus and nodes. This strong 12th house (moksha sthana and upasana sthana) shows a lot of meditation and submitting oneself to god.

(10) At the time of death, he was running Venus-Sun antardasa as per Dwisaptati sama dasa. Venus is the 2nd lord and Sun is the occupant of the 2nd house, in D-30.

Because the time of his death is recorded accurately, it is possible to say something about the after-life based on the death chart. I will try to write about it after a couple of weeks.

May Jupiter's light shine on us,
Narasimha

Drig Dasa By Sri Roberth Koch

Drig dasa

With respect to Sanjay and Narasimha, I wish to answer your question as above, by reproducing Narasimha's tutorial on Drig dasa, which appeared on this list some months ago. In my case, the methods of dasa/antara calculation as given here, matched the times of both of my spiritual initiations from Srila Prabhupada. Pay special attention to dasas/antaras connected to the Mantra-pada (Arudha of the 5th house) when seeing the external formalities of initiation (diksha). Actual spiritual devotion (Raganuga-bhakti) should be seen from the 5th itself. Here is the tutorial:

DRIG DASA -- PURPOSE:

Drig dasa (Drig=vision) is excellent for understanding religious pursuits.

DEFINITION:

(1) Start dasas from 9th house.

(2) First dasa will belong to the 9th house and the next 3 dasas will belong to the 3 signs aspecting 9th. Order of reckoning is forward/backward based on whether the 9th house is odd-footed/even-footed (odd-footed signs: Ar, Ta, Ge; Li, Sc, Sg).

(3) Next set of 4 dasas will start from the 10th house and include the 3 signs aspecting it. Order of reckoning is forward/backward based on whether the 10th house is odd-footed/even-footed.

(4) Next set of 4 dasas will start from the 11th house and include the 3 signs aspecting it. Order of reckoning is forward/backward based on whether the 11th
house is odd-footed/even-footed.

(5) Dasa durations are found as in Narayana dasa (see archives or the recent Sudasa mail).

Note: Use rasi drishti (sign aspects). Movable signs aspect all fixed signs except the adjacent one. Fixed signs aspect all movable signs except the adjacent one. Dual signs aspect all other dual signs.

An example will make it clearer.

* * *

PRINCIPLES:

(1) If you are looking at someone whose chart holds promise for renunciation, Drig dasa of Arudha lagna brings it.

(2) Drig dasa of lagna is excellent for religious pursuits. It can bring a
good position also.

(3) Drig dasa of the sign containing mantra pada (Arudha pada of 5th) or its lord
can bring mantra/religious initiations.

(4) Drig dasas of the signs containing Rahu and Ketu are excellent for spiritual
pursuit.

* * *

EXAMPLE:

Brendan Feeley shared his birth data on this list a couple months back:

13 March 1949, 12:30 or 12:32 am (GMT), 8w13, 53n20

His rasi chart: Rahu in Ar; Moon & Saturn in Le; Ketu in Li; Lagna & mantra pada
in Sc; Jupiter in Cp; Arudha lagna, Sun, Mars, Mercury & Venus in Aq.

(1) The 9th house is Cn. It starts dasas.

(2) Cn is an even-footed sign. Go backwards from Cn (as Cn, Ge, Ta, Ar, Pi etc) and pick the signs that aspect Cn. So the first 4 dasas are Cn, Ta, Aq and Sc.

(3) The 10th house is Le. It is an even-footed sign. Go backwards from Le (as Le, Cn, Ge, Ta, Ar, Pi etc) and pick the signs that aspect Le. So the next 4 dasas are Le, Ar, Cp and Li.

(4) The 11th house is Vi. It is an even-footed sign. Go backwards from Vi (as Vi, Le, Cn, Ge, Ta, Ar, Pi etc) and pick the signs that aspect Vi. So the next 4 dasas are Vi, Ge, Pi and Sg.

(5) You can find dasa durations as in Narayana dasa.

Dasa sequence for reference:

Cn: 11 yrs: 1949-1960
Ta: 9 years: 1960-1969
Aq: 6 years: 1969-1975
Sc: 3 years: 1975-1978
Le: 6 years: 1978-1984
Ar: 10 years: 1984-1994
Cp: 5 years: 1994-1999
Li: 4 years: 1999-2003

Aq has AL and many planets. Aq dasa might have brought philosophical thoughts and even thoughts of renunciation, though it came at a very young age (20-26).

Sc has lagna and mantra pada and see principles (2) and (3) above. Because of mantra pada, it brought religious initiation.

Le dasa has Saturn and Moon and it brought Radha Krishna bhakti (Saturn or Mercury with Moon shows Krishna).

Ar dasa from 1984 is good for religious pursuits because of Rahu (principle (4)).

Cp dasa has debilitated Jupiter. Nothing special.

Li dasa started in March 1999. Li has GL. It is the 12th from lagna. It has Ketu
(refer principle (4)). It also has kashta pada (Arudha pada of 8th). It is likely to create difficulties and obstacles in religious pursuit (kashta pada), BUT result in great spiritual progress (Ketu in 12th!!) despite those obstacles.

If one has Ketu in 12th, Drig dasa of the 12th will be an excellent dasa in spiritual pursuit. So your guru told you at the right time to become more active. Why don't you follow his advice?

GL shows outward activities and Ketu in 12th shows inward progress (the two are different). I guess both will be experienced in the next 3.5 years.

Antardasas go as in Narayana dasa (this is not Sanjay's explicit instruction, but my inference). In Li dasa, they go as Aq, Pi, Ar etc. Aries antardasa runs from Nov 1999 to March 2000. Aries has Rahu. So the next 4-5 months may be very good for spiritual sadhana. All the best!

WARNING: Drig dasa is a good dasa when used for spiritual and religious pursuits. But Vimsamsa and Vimsamsa Narayana dasa have a final say. Nevertheless the purpose here is to illustrate Drig dasa.

With regards,
Robert
