I have chart for my mom's pet dog, although the time is not known. Perhaps you would like to look into prashna to determine the time? Sanjay can I ask you to do the prashna, then we may analyse?

Birthdate is 21 May 2003 in Brussels, Belgium. Daylight savings time, so time zone is GMT+2.

She had a operation on the eyes twice last year, and during the first she was also made infertile. See how Sun-Rahu in Taurus explains the surgery on the eyes clearly.

Namaste Dhira,
Since we are just experimenting with ideas, Let me caution about possible pitfalls in my understandings before I proceed. Other Learneds' opinions are welcome.

First, I would take kaaraka for Dog as mercury, Reason being that the In Kaalachakra placement of animals Dog is assigned the Mercury corner (South-West). I have also heard of other opinions of giving Rahu as the kaaraka, The reason being that it's 7th ruler in Kaalchakra to placement of dog and it's also said that Dog's can sense presence of spirits. I will go by Kaaraka as Mercury since Dogs have keen sense of Smell ruled by Pritvi tatwa ruled by Mercury. Also dogs are usually very active, easily trainable (Mercury trait) etc. Since Mercury kaaraka is against Rahu kaaraka, They are usually very uncomfortable to presence of spirits could be reason I suggest for the theory that they sense spirits.

Having said that, I would assume that Praanapada lagna(20 times Lagna + navamsa lagna) should be in trines to Mercury in Navamsa for dogs.

Since in your given chart the time is not given I really cannot justify my understanding using that data. Also even if the time is accurately given the PP could still corrected to any considered lagna, So it's difficult to prove empirically and we have to either search shlokas of Rishi etc or depend on our reason.

Now, Taking one step further. The Moon is taken as one of the longitude for Vimshottari for Humans. So can we say Mercury longitude (Sphuta) should be taken for dogs?. I would assume so.

Even with so many 'If', Let me try your given chart,

I casted a prashna chart at Washington, DC for your dog,

As seen, The Navamsa rising in Prashna chart is Taurus with Mercury and Jupiter. Therefore its possible that the Rising sign for the Dog could be Trines to Taurus Or the 7th. The rising sign in Rasi is Leo, A Day Sign, Indicating that it's possible Day Birth.

Now taking a look at the chart for your given date and other data,

Dog Natal Chart Date: May 21, 2003 Time: 18:01:53 Time Zone: 2:00:00 (East of GMT) Place: 4 E 20' 00", 50 N 50' 00" Brussels, Belgium Altitude: 0.00 meters Lunar Yr-Mo: Subhanu - Vaisakha Tithi: Krishna Sapthami (Sa) (85.02% left) Vedic Weekday: Wednesday (Me) Nakshatra: Sravanam (Mo) (24.28% left) Yoga: Brahma (Ma) (52.04% left) Karana: Vishti (Sa) (70.04% left) Hora Lord: Sun (5 min sign: Li) Mahakala Hora: Jupiter (5 min sign: Ge) Kaala Lord: Rahu (Mahakala: Rahu) Sunrise: 5:50:10 Sunset: 21:31:20 Janma Ghatis: 30.4886 Ayanamsa: 23-54-00.44 Sidereal Time: 8:14:45 Body Longitude Nakshatra Pada Rasi Navamsa Lagna 29 Vi 59' 55.46" Chit 2 Vi Vi Sun - GK 6 Ta 17' 55.98" Krit 3 Ta Aq Moon - BK 20 Cp 05' 46.31" Srav 4 Cp Cn Mars - AmK 23 Cp 10' 35.40" Srav 4 Cp Cn Mercury - PiK 17 Ar 17' 35.94" Bhar 2 Ar Vi Jupiter - MK 17 Cn 26' 40.74" Asre 1 Cn Sg Venus - PK 12 Ar 25' 58.70" Aswi 4 Ar Cn Saturn - DK 4 Ge 27' 07.95" Mrig 4 Ge Sc Rahu - AK 5 Ta 40' 49.40" Krit 3 Ta Aq Ketu 5 Sc 40' 49.40" Anu 1 Sc Le Maandi 22 Cn 45' 51.66" Asre 2 Cn Cp Gulika 22 Cn 45' 51.66" Asre 2 Cn Cp Bhava Lagna 8 Sc 44' 30.16" Anu 2 Sc Vi Hora Lagna 11 Ta 40' 24.09" Rohi 1 Ta Ar Ghati Lagna 20 Sc 28' 05.87" Jye 2 Sc Cp Vimsottari Dasa (started from Mercury): Ven Ven 1997-06-12 Sun 2000-10-14 Moon 2001-10-15 Mars 2003-06-13 Rah 2004-08-14 Jup 2007-08-15 Sat 2010-04-12 Merc 2013-06-12 Ket 2016-04-11

Now I tried all the possible lagnas in Taurus trines. I felt the Virgo could fit the description

1) Eye Problems: 2nd is for physical Eye and ninth from it 10th is sight. Should be afflicted for eye defects. The Natural 10th House Capricorn is for Sight and Natural 2nd is for sight.

If we consider Virgo Lagna we see that, That 2nd Lord Venus in 8th conjoined 10th Lord Mercury. So possibly we can accept this.
8th Lord Mars is in Capricorn (The 8th Lord usually afflicts the Sign)
6th Lord is Rahu conjoined Sun, The kaaraka for sight.
10th House is having Saturn.

2) Infertility: In Femal charts the 9th house stands for fertility. Here we see that 9th is afflicted by 12th Lord Sun and 6th Lord Rahu (6th Lord usually afflicts the house results). The Sun and Rahu is eclipse combination and here it's tightly conjoined.
The same eclipse combination aspects the 2nd house from lagna.
Also Rahu's disposer is Venus in 8th (Rahu gives results of disposer) and Venus lords the 2nd in 8th.

If we assume the above weakness to lead to problem then the Dasa should also activate the weakness for sufferings.

The Vimshottari dasa as started from Mercury is,

Vimsottari Dasa (started from Mercury):

Ven MD: 1997-06-12 (18:14:43) - 2017-06-12 (21:20:57)
Antardasas in this MD:

Ven: 1997-06-12 (18:14:43) - 2000-10-14 (21:51:36)
Sun: 2000-10-14 (21:51:36) - 2001-10-15 (3:53:47)
Moon: 2001-10-15 (3:53:47) - 2003-06-13 (7:06:32)
Mars: 2003-06-13 (7:06:32) - 2004-08-14 (8:56:02)
Rah: 2004-08-14 (8:56:02) - 2007-08-15 (3:16:50) Jup: 2007-08-15 (3:16:50) - 2010-04-12 (0:08:19)
Sat: 2010-04-12 (0:08:19) - 2013-06-12 (20:45:16)
Merc: 2013-06-12 (20:45:16) - 2016-04-11 (12:58:06)
Ket: 2016-04-11 (12:58:06) - 2017-06-12 (21:20:57)

We see that the Dasa is of Venus and antardasa is of Rahu. Hence it's quite possible that I could be in right track here.
Now to see the Bhoga(enjoyment) in the antardasa, Count as many signs from Antardasa lords is away from Mahadasa lord from Antardasa lord. Here Rahu-AD is in 2nd from Venus-MD, counting 2 from AD, We arrive at 10th house. So the enjoyment/sufferings would be 10th house related in this dasa.

If we assume the Lagna to be correct, Lets take the Narayana dasa and see,

Narayana Dasa of D-1 chart (a versatile phalita rasi dasa):

Vi MD: 2003-05-21 (18:01:54) - 2008-05-21 (0:45:28)

Antardasas in this MD:

Cn: 2004-08-23 (2:10:28) - 2005-01-20 (6:30:43)
Le: 2005-01-20 (6:30:43) - 2005-06-21 (14:25:56) Vi: 2005-06-21 (14:25:56) - 2005-11-22 (12:44:53) Li: 2005-11-22 (12:44:53) - 2006-04-20 (13:16:56) Sc: 2006-04-20 (13:16:56) - 2006-09-23 (12:03:05) Sg: 2006-09-23 (12:03:05) - 2007-02-19 (9:06:53)
Cp: 2007-02-19 (9:06:53) - 2007-07-23 (13:28:34)
Aq: 2007-07-23 (13:28:34) - 2007-12-22 (14:20:48)
Pi: 2007-12-22 (14:20:48) - 2008-05-21 (0:45:28)

The Narayana dasa is of Virgo. Let's divide the Dasa in 3 parts (4 Antardasa each). Giving the sign the first priority to decide, the Sign Virgo is prishtodaya. The sign results will come in Last 4 Antardasa.
Next giving the Lord of sign to decide it's timing. We see the Lord is in Prishtodaya sign Aries. Hence the Lord would opt the later of the remaining 2 parts of 3. Hence Lord will give results in middle 4 antardasa.
The remaining slot i.e 1st of 3 part, will have to give results of aspects on Virgo.

Here we see that Lord Mercury in 8th results is seen in middle 1/3rd part. Hence 8th house results of mercury as Lagna lord (health/praana) and 10th Lordship in 8th could be seen.
Maybe this lagna could explain the results.
I really dont want to venture in NAvamsa and Praanapada in Navamsa, Due to somany If conditions.

Hopefully this was of interest to your learned taste.

Warm Regards
Sanjay P

Hare RAma Krishna

Dear Sanjay,

Thank you for your analysis of prashna. With Mercury in Navamsa lagna and
Sun in 9th, it could indeed be Virgo lagna for the pet. Sun conjoins Moon
in prashna and is in Moon's exaltation sign in natal chart. Rahu is in 6th
in prashna and becomes 6th lord in natal chart, so you may be correct.

I think your idea of taking Vimsottari from Mercury for dogs is also
correct. Parashara Light software and I guess Jhora also give those
options, and why would we use these dasha otherwise?

Thanks!

Dear SanjayP-ji,
Namaskar. Sanjay-ji, long ago in yahoo groups was trying to explain his dog-biting incident, and took Shani as karaka for dogs.

One suggestion for your blog which is already very nice: Can you put the title of each blog article so that on the column on the left which shows dates, we can see the titles instead. The idea is similar to Sarajit-ji's blogs. It is easy to understand and identify the blogs that way.
